Shower Tips

Showers comprise about 17 percent of the water used indoors. Replace any showerhead that allows a flow of more than 2.5 gallons per minute. Look for showerheads with a flow rating of 2.0 to 2.5 gallons per minute.

Limit the length of your showers to 5 minutes or less. A family of four taking daily 5-minute showers with a high-efficiency showerhead can save more than 40,000 gallons of water each year.

Take more showers than baths. If you do take a bath, don't fill the tub all the way. In-line water heaters or recirculating systems can save up to 30 gallons of water per day.

Showerhead Installation

1. Remove the old showerhead from the shower arm.
   
   
2. Before installing the new showerhead, turn on the water to wash out the pipe. Then, turn the water off.
   
   
3. Wrap the threaded pipe end clockwise with Teflon tape.
   
   
4. Screw on the new showerhead and hand-tighten. DO NOT CROSS-THREAD.
   
   
5. Test the showerhead. If it leaks, tighten until snug. DO NOT OVER-TIGHTEN
