Peggy Maze Johnson has spent more than 30 years in the public arena. As executive director of Neighbors in Need in Washington, she directed the first system of food banks in the country, operating facilities in 19 counties of the state.

Johnson’s experience with Neighborhoods in Need led her to campaign against food bank systems based in the belief that America could do better. She took this agenda into the legislative arena as a candidate for the Washington state senate and then as an organizer and professional political consultant. Johnson has worked on many political races from city council to presidential races. She even has some experience working on a political race in Ireland.

Other accomplishments include: legislative assistant for U.S. Rep. Mike Lowry (D-Washington); community services director for Seattle Indian Center; political organizer for American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees; consultant for the Department of Social & Health Services for the State of Washington in the areas of Mental Health Services and Food Stamp Outreach; lobbyist for low-income people and clients of mental health services; licensed real estate agent and an owner of a small business (general contractor).

Johnson has been active in community affairs in every community where she has resided. She is currently the second vice-president of the Las Vegas Branch of the NAACP and vice-president of the Water Conservation Coalition. She also serves on the boards for EmergeNevada, Alliance for Nuclear Accountability and Nevada Desert Experience. Johnson is a member of Hispanics in Politics; League of Women Voters and the Clark County Nuclear Waste Task Force. Most recently, Johnson was appointed by the Clark County Commission to the Winchester Town Advisory Board. Johnson has been Executive Director of Citizen Alert since April 2002.
