Home Builder Information

The Water Smart Home program educates potential home buyers about the benefits of buying a water-efficient home. Participating builders benefit from these promotional efforts, and Southern Nevada residents gain environmentally-friendly housing options.

Home builders participating in the program can use the program logo and materials in advertising.

Water Smart Home logoRequirements to join

Home builders interested in joining the Water Smart Home program must agree to:

  • Follow minimum standards (PDF) for water efficiency in new residential homes and/or communities
  • Participate in a mandatory program briefing
  • Allow inspections of randomly selected Water Smart Homes prior to occupancy
  • Pay an annual participation fee to help market the program

Levels of participation

Home builders participating in the program agree to construct a multiple-home development of single-family homes. All the homes are Water Smart Homes, and the common area landscapes and structures meet minimum program standards.

Emerging Technologies

To keep up with technological advancements and increase water efficiency, the Water Smart Home Program will introduce new requirements for homes inspected on or after January 1, 2009. View a fact sheet (PDF) of the new requirements.
