Water Testing

Our water meets or surpasses federal Safe Drinking Water Act standards.

Our laboratory staff members:

• Collect more than 40,000 water samples annually
• Run about 475,000 analyses each year
• Test for 150 regulated and unregulated contaminants
• Draw samples from throughout the valley

Finding a needle in a haystack

The equipment used by scientists to measure water quality is so sensitive, it can detect contaminants down to a part per billion (ppb). To put that in perspective, one ppb is equivalent to 1 inch in 15,750 miles or one minute in 2,000 years.

Testing accuracy

We ensure accuracy through a certification program requiring us to periodically test samples from an independent laboratory. The results of these analyses are compared to those conducted at the independent lab. Annual inspections of the treatment facility also are included in the certification requirements.
