Melampodium leucanthum
Southwestern native. Low, mounding to spreading habit. Narrow, linear, 1/2 to 2 inches long, green to gray-green, faintly hairy leaves with smooth to irregularly serrated margins. White, 1 inch daisy-like flowers with yellow centers. Fragrant. Attracts bees and butterflies. Trim off spent flowers to encourage continued blooming. Papery husks hold seeds. Seeds are a food source for birds. Cut back by half in late autumn or winter if leggy. May reseed in the landscape.
