Prostrate Myoporum, Australian Racer, Creeping Boobialla
Myoporum parvifolium
Long ground-hugging stems densely covered in small, narrow, bright green leaves. Stems will root down in moist soil. Tiny star-shape white flowers in spring and early summer. Occasional have a pink or lavender tint. May mound up on itself as it grows. Good if you want grass-green look without grass, but doesn't take foot traffic. Prefers amended, well-draining soils. Plants will sometimes die out and need to be replaced. Suffers from root rot if over-watered. Foliage may turn yellow in the summer heat. Several cultivars available including 'Burgundy Carpet' with purple new growth and 'Putah Creek' which grows slightly taller (but still less than 1 foot). Synonym: Myoporum parvifolium 'Prostratum'.
