Butterfly Bush, Summer Lilac
Buddleja davidii
Fast growing shrub with long, tapered dark green leaves and gray-white, fuzzy undersides. Spiky clusters of fragrant flowers with red-orange centers adorn the branch tips. Numerous cultivars with flower colors in varying shades of purple, from dark purple through a pale purple-pink, yellow and white. White is the most fragrant color. Likes well drained soil and does best with afternoon shade in the desert. May die back in cold weather. Synonym: Buddleia davidii.
