Shrubby Bulbine, Bulbine
Bulbine frutescens
Small clumps of long, thin, bright green, succulent leaves. Clusters of flowers held on stems above the foliage. Original variety has yellow flowers. 'Hallmark' variety has orange flowers with yellow stamens and is more compact and not quite as cold tolerant. Accepts full sun, but looks best with some afternoon shade in our area. Plants spread by rhizomes, creating wide spreading clumps. May occasionally need divided. Low water use once established. Makes a nice low border; works well in rock gardens or containers.
