Octopus Agave
Agave vilmoriniana
As with almost all Agave species this plant dies after its one and only bloom. However this is one of the Agaves that produces both seed pods and bulbils (baby plants) on its flower stalk which can easily be transplanted. Agave vilmoriniana's leaves twist and turn (hence its common name Octopus Agave) and have smooth edges with a soft terminal tip. To prevent sunburning give this plant afternoon shade. Depending on the growth rate this Agave blooms when 7 to 15 years old. The flower stalk is 15 to 25 feet in length and is covered with yellow flowers.
