Sierra Sundrop, Sundrops, Hartweg's Sundrops
Calylophus hartwegii

Somewhat upright, perennial groundcover with narrow, green to gray-green foliage. Bright to lemon yellow, 1 inch, cup-shaped flowers. Color fades to orange as flowers age. Flowers open in the evening and close the following afternoon. An individual bloom lasts for a single day. Remove spent flowers and provide some extra water in summer to encourage continued blooming. Likes reflected heat, but can take some shade in our area. Does best in well-drained soils. Cut back to the ground in late winter or early spring.
