Canna
Canna hybrids

Many varieties available, varying in size, foliage color, and flower color. Basic hybrids grow 4-6 feet tall, while dwarf varieties only get 2-3 feet. Large, broad-leaved, attractive foliage. Most commonly medium to deep green, but some varieties have variegated, bronze-tinged, or dark red-purple foliage. Flowers are very showy, offered in shades and combinations of yellow, orange, red, pink, and white and are borne on tall stalks coming out of the foliage. After all flowers on the stem are spent, cut off entire stalk. Amend soil and feed. Can be left in the ground all winter in Nevada but are tender in northern climates and must be dug up and stored for the winter. Divide clumps every 3-4 years. Needs well amended soils, organic surface mulch, and a good source of water during its growing/flowering season. Does best with some shade in our area.
