Trailing Indigo Bush, Prostrate Indigo Bush, Gregg's Dalea
Dalea greggii
A fast-growing, mounding groundcover with long branches billowing out from the center that send down roots wherever they touch soil. Delicate, fuzzy, fern-like, silvery blue-green to gray-green foliage. The small, fuzzy clusters of lavender-pink to purple pea-like flowers cover the plant from late winter or early spring through summer. Accepts reflected heat, poor soils and is very drought tolerant. Requires little maintenance; cut back near the base every few years in winter to renew the foliage if desired. Daleas create their own fertilizer, so do not fertilize. Overwatering will rot this plant at the roots. Great on slopes, in open areas, and rock gardens. Plant in locations with plenty room to spread out as it is not as attractive when sheared. Looks scraggly in pots, but it's great once it's in the ground.
