Cooper's Ice Plant, Purple Iceplant, Hardy Iceplant
Drosanthemum cooperi
One of the hardiest ice plants. This succulent groundcover has medium to bright green foliage and can flower even in the heat of summer. To look its best and continue to produce its almost neon purple-pink flowers water every 2-3 days in the hot desert during July and August. Space water out to every 4-7 days in spring and autumn and infrequently in winter. Does not like wet soil in winter. Foliage takes on a yellow cast when overwatered. May look scraggly and experience some dieback in winter, if so clean out and remove dead sections in early spring. Works well in containers, planters, xeric gardens, and rock gardens, on slopes or in borders. Synonym: Delosperma cooperi.
