Golden Dewdrop, Sky Flower
Duranta erecta 'Sweet Memory'

A lush multi-stemmed shrub with arching vine-like branches which takes on a sprawling to weeping appearance in maturity. The glossy, bright green, tooth-edged leaves make a good backdrop for open, spreading clusters of small tubular white-edged deep purple flowers. Small, waxy, golden berries follow. The berries are poisonous to humans, but not birds. Occasionally a specimen will have small spines at the base of the leaves. Needs amended soils and regular water. Fertilize in spring and fall for best appearance. Prefers afternoon shade in our area. Most attractive when kept in its natural shape, but can be pruned for shape if desired or in a confined space. Blooms on new growth so prune in late winter after danger of frost is past.
