Brittle bush, Brittlebush, Incienso
Encelia farinosa
Native subshrub. Has lovely daisy-like flowers held above the silvery gray-green to blue-gray foliage on branched stalks. Tends to volunteer in the yard, but unwanted plants are easily removed. Can be short lived so keep a few of the volunteers. Primary bloom is in spring, but may bloom sporadically in summer and fall if conditions are right. Remove unsightly seed heads after blooms fade to expose attractive foliage; cut back in fall to promote herbaceous growth. Foliage tips are damaged when it gets colder than 20 F, but roots will survive down to 0 F. Great xeriscape plant.
