Apache Plume
Fallugia paradoxa
This native shrub has a rounded to mounding habit and is covered in blooms and showy seed heads much of the year. The small, bright to olive green, finely-divided leaves are held close to the branches. White, five-petal flowers are followed by the pink, silky plumed seed heads that give this plant its common name, Apache Plume. The dense, interwoven braches may make for an untidy appearance, but is natural to the plant. In more mature shrubs, cut some of the oldest branches to the ground in winter to renew growth. Works well in desert and rock gardens, as a mass planting for larger scale areas, or as a barrier, informal hedge or screen.
