Bunny Ears, Polka Dot Cactus
Opuntia microdasys
There are three varieties of microdasys, one with cinnamon, one with yellow and one with white colored spines. The white variety (O. albispina) is the most cold hardy of the group. This cactus has dense tuft of glochids (very small spines) that are easily dislodged with the wind or when the plant is moved, often lodging in the skin. It is recommended to mist the plant with soapy water before working around it or moving it.
