Southwestern native. Shrub-like penstemon with a woody base. Small green leaves with toothed margins. Bright red tubular flowers that attract hummingbirds. Needs good drainage to perform well. Seeds are a food source for birds. Remove spent flower spikes during bloom period if you don't want it to set seeds, otherwise remove spikes and prune for form in the late winter.
