Russian Sage
Perovskia atriplicifolia
Woody based, multi-stemmed perennial topped with branching sprays of small lavender-blue to purple flowers. Wooly, finely cut, lance-shaped, silver-green to gray-green aromatic leaves have a lacy appearance. New stem growth starts out soft and silver-white, becoming woody as the season progresses. Attracts bees and butterflies. Capable of spreading by underground stems. Trim off spent flowers to prolong blooming period. In early spring, cut back to 4-6 inches from the ground for a fuller, more compact habit or back to main branches for a more airy habit. Works well as a background or filler plant or in mass plantings. Member of the mint family.
