Pyracantha koidzumii 'Santa Cruz'

Lower growing with an open to dense, irregularly mounding shape. Arching, spiny branches with sharp tips. Glossy, narrowly elliptical, medium to dark green leaves. Flattened clusters of small, fragrant, white flowers. Some people enjoy the fragrance and others do not. Clusters of hanging red-orange fruit. Fruit is food for birds. Can be grown as a low shrub, groundcover, or trained up against walls (takes extra pruning). Prune for shape spring, fall, or winter. Remove the occasional vertical branches to keep low growing. Susceptible to fire blight, lace bug, mealy bugs, and spider mites.
