Purple Sage, San Luis Purple Sage, Gray Sage
Salvia leucophylla

Rounded to spreading habit. Arching, upturned branches with wooly stems. Gray-green to silver-gray, wooly, lance-shape, 1 to 2 1/2 inches long leaves. Aromatic. Whorls of small lavender-pink flowers with gray bracts and calyxes appear at intervals along the upper section of the stems. Attracts bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies. Trim off seed heads and prune lightly for form in late winter or early spring. Does best with some afternoon shade in the low desert. Member of the mint family.
