Lady Banks' Rose, Lady Bank's Rose, Lady Banks Rose
Rosa banksiae
Long slender arching branches. Glossy, leathery, medium to deep green leaves divided into 3 to 5 leaflets. Leaflets elliptical with pointed tips and serrated leaf margins. Clusters of flowers. Two varieties of R. banksiae are commonly sold in our area-R. banksiae 'Lutea' with creamy yellow flowers, and R. banksiae 'White Banksia' (also called R. b. 'Alba Plena') with white flowers. Flowers attract bees and butterflies. This variety of rose is thornless to nearly thornless. Prefers amended garden soils. Becomes chlorotic in alkaline soils. Can be used as a high mounding groundcover or, more commonly, trained up walls, fences, etc. Needs support to grow vertically. Develops a woody trunk when trained up. Will require frequent pruning during the growing season if you wish to keep it close to a wall, otherwise only occasional training and pruning. Some litter from foliage drop. Resistant to aphids and most common rose diseases.
