Glossy green, lance-shape, 1 to 3 inch long leaves with smooth to wavy margins. Leaves sometimes purple-tinged. Clusters of 1 inch, star-shaped flowers with white petals and bright yellow centers. There are cultivars with blue-white to pale purple flowers. Needs support to grow vertically. Cut back severely periodically to refresh growth and trim back ground runners. Prefers amended soils. Cold sensitive. May die back partially or fully in colder winters. Established plants should come back from the roots. Susceptible to aphids, spider mites, and whiteflies.
