Desert Sweet, Fernbush
Chamaebatiaria millefolium
A rounded shrub with small, aromatic, light-green to gray-green, ferny foliage. Clusters of small, white, lilac-like flowers appear in summer. Fernbush can be placed close to patios and walks so that its fragrance can be enjoyed. It also can be used as fall color to keep interest as other plants go dormant. One of the earliest shrubs to begin leafing out in the spring in the southwest U.S. Intermountain zone. May not like the summer heat of our low desert zones. Provide afternoon shade and give it some extra water in summer to keep it happy.
