Green Rabbit Brush, Yellow Rabbitbrush
Chrysothamnus viscidiflorus
Rounded, dense shrub with narrow, sometimes spiraled, green foliage and small golden-yellow flowers. Foliage and flowers are sticky to the touch. Prefers lower foothills, meadows and shrubland in its native habitat. Use for summer and autumn color in both traditional and native gardens. Plant masses as a groundcover for impact. Grows easily in alkaline and saline soils, and thrives on soils that are rich in calcium. Foliage is a food source for rabbits and birds enjoy the seeds. Some people are allergic to the peppery-sweet scent of its pollen. Prune out dead wood as needed.
