Dwarf Ruellia, Mexican Petunia, Britton's Wild Petunia
Ruellia brittoniana
Upright, rounded to clumping habit. Narrow, 3 inch long, dark green leaves. Generally lush looking, but can become rangy. Trumpet-shaped flowers. Original purple-flowered variety is potentially invasive. Has several common cultivars with different flower colors: 'Blanca' is white, 'Katie' is blue, and 'Rosa' is pink. The cultivars are not known to be invasive. Prefers amended soils. Somewhat cold sensitive in our area. Cut back in late winter. Synonyms: Ruellia caerulea, Ruellia tweediana.
